Knowing Jesus...

What does it mean to be a "passionate lover of God"?  How can our experience together at MBC help us towards that goal?

God wants us to love Him and be loved by Him, but He doesn't intend that we do it alone!  He puts us in communities of believers like MBC to help us know Him better, and a large part of what we do as a church is intended to help each of us along in our journey towards a closer relationship with Jesus.

Two of the best ways this can happen is through our worship times and in our study groups.  Together, they help us know God better and love Him more, and give us opportunities through worship to express our love and our praise to our loving Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Music and WorshipMusicandWorship1

We were born to praise God. Everything we do is aimed toward that one purpose. Each week, the Music and Worship teams at Millington Baptist Church explore new and creative ways to offer up our praise and worship.

Millington Baptist Church is an exciting group of believers who are dedicated to spreading the message of Jesus Christ locally and abroad through worship, discipleship, and relationships. At MBC, we believe that worship arises at the intersection between a passionate God and a prepared people.

The Apostle Paul instructs us to sing "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" to one another (Ephesians, Colossians). We are to draw from the Scriptures the great traditions of the faith, and new expressions of the spirit in order to have God-honoring, mutually edifying worship. At MBC, we strive to do this every time we gather.

Colossians 3:16Colossians 3:16
(New International Version)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
may well describe our artistic aspirations. In our services we use songs set to Scripture, fresh modern worship songs, and traditional hymns. Our desire is not so much to imitate the music of our modern culture, but rather to imitate Christ as we first seek His kingdom. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever Hebrews 13:8Hebrews 13:8
(New International Version)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
. Our creative approach should be the same: timeless, heartfelt and relevant.

Sunday Morning Messages

Because we’re convinced that:

Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another — showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17)

… we study our Bibles during our Sunday morning worship services. Having spoken of our desire to know His truth as we’ve lifted our worship in song, we turn to the primary source through which He speaks: His Word. We seek to understand both the setting to which it was first delivered and its application in our day … and God speaks to us. Through His Word He encourages, challenges, corrects and even rebukes us, and strangely enough, we leave refreshed. His Word brings life! It sparks thirst for more!

We want to be a people in whom His Word has free reign, shaping us to be more like His great Son, Jesus.

Adult Bible Studies

Another way that helps us in Knowing Jesus is the regular study of His word in the company of other Christians.  Our Adult Bible Studies on Sunday mornings can be a great way to do that, and we encourage all members of our MBC family to make participation in one of our Adult Classes a priority.
