The mission of Millington Baptist Church is to make new and spiritually mature disciples of Jesus Christ, to the glory of God.
The gospel is the good news that Jesus, God’s Son, died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life by God. This gospel declares that we are saved by grace through faith in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Therefore, the gospel orders all our life, and in obedience to Christ, we seek for everything to flow out of, be centered on, and connect back to proclaiming and living out the gospel of Christ. (Acts 10:36-43; Rom 1:16-17; 1 Cor 15:1-11; 1 Pet 1:3-12; 1 John 2:2; 4:10)
2. Shaped by God's Word
To become complete, fully mature in Christ, disciples must develop depth of knowledge and insight of God’s Word. Therefore, we will train disciples in God’s Word in order to know Christ and be transformed by the Word as the Spirit works. (Deut 6:1-9; Psa 119:11; 1 Cor 11:1; Phil 1:9-11; Col 1:28; 3:10, 16; 2 Tim 3:16-17; Heb 4:12; 1 Pet 3:15-16)
3. Marked by Sacrifice
The Bible teaches that disciples of Jesus serve others sacrificially out of Christ’s love. Therefore, we seek to develop humble disciples who ask “Lord, please use me!” and who give themselves in service to others to God’s glory for God’s purposes. (Matt 6:24; Mark 10:35-45; Luke 4:8; Acts 5:40-42; 2 Cor 5:14-15; 13:4; Gal 5:13; Eph 4:11-13; 6:7; Jam 2:20; 1 Pet 4:10; 1 John 3:16)
4. Living in Community
God intended that relationship with Him through Christ be lived, refined, and grown in intimate, burden-bearing groups with other Christians who seek to become spiritually mature in Christ and to extend the gospel to others. Therefore, we will experience the blessing and transformation of the gospel as members of smaller groups (community) who: do life together, are devoted to one another, share each other’s burdens, and reorient their lives together for making spiritually mature disciples and making new disciples. (John 13:35; Acts 2:42-47; 1 Cor 12:12-31; Gal 5:13; Eph 4:16; 5:1-2; Gal 5:14; 1 Tim 5:4; Heb 6:10; 10:24; 1 Pet 1:22; 1 John 2:5; 3:14; 4:11-21)
5. Making New Disciples
Christ’s love compels us to help people be reconciled to God through the gospel of Christ. Therefore, we will live on mission by shaping every aspect of our lives — our everyday, ordinary life — by the gospel to be missionaries to our own families, neighbors, co-workers and communities developing relationships with the lost, demonstrating Christ’s love, and sharing the gospel. (Matt 4:19; 28:18-20; Luke 15:1-7; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; Rom 12:1; 1 Cor 9:20-23; 2 Cor 5:14-21).
